The 2.6 Challenge takes place from Sunday 26 April 2020, the day the Virgin London Marathon should have taken place. A UK-wide initiative where all charities can take part, we are asking people to support Facial Palsy UK if they would like to get involved. This could be about raising funds or you might just want to raise awareness.
What is the 2.6 Challenge?
The 2.6 Challenge can be any activity you like – from running 2.6 miles to holding an online quiz with 26 of your friends. Everything centres around either the number 2.6 or 26.
Why support Facial Palsy UK?
We are not eligible for any of the specific funding for charities being allocated by the government because these funds are largely being channelled into charities working directly on the frontline. We are supporting people by phone and email with facial palsy related health care issues during the crisis. We are answering questions about eye lubricants, medications, eye taping, steroid related immunity in relation to COVID-19, how to cope with facial pain, and more. We are advising people when they need to go back to their GP for more help, giving them the confidence to make that phone call in these difficult times. Women diagnosed with Bell’s palsy in the late stages of pregnancy are finding this a particularly stressful time. We are here, giving as much support as we can, supplementing the work of health professionals now more than ever.
Our community fundraising income has stalled due to the impact of COVID-19, many individuals have also had their income impacted. The UK-wide initiative has been set up in order to raise funds and try and get the nation active. Your personal circumstances may mean you cannot donate or do not wish to fundraise, but we would still very much welcome your participation as it raises awareness about our charity and the work we do.
