December 23, 2019
First of all, a big thank you to the many people who have supported us this year with your time, donations and fundraising efforts. As a small charity with only two members of staff we simply couldn’t do what we do without you.
Changes for 2020
Sadly our Support and Information Coordinator Lorraine is going to pastures new and today is her last day with the charity. Lorraine will be sadly missed but we wish her well in her future role.
As Lorraine ran our Birmingham Support Group we unfortunately will need to suspend future meetings until someone new can take over the running of this group, therefore the meeting on 28 March is cancelled. While we go through a transition period training our new member of staff please bear with us as we may be slower to respond to enquiries than normal. We will make introductions in the new year.
Facial Palsy Awareness Week 1 – 7 March 2020
Plans are now in place for Facial Palsy Awareness Week 2020.
On social media we would like you to help us ‘Lift the Lid on Facial Palsy’ so we can dispel common misconceptions and to help encourage NHS funders and decision makers to FaceUP! to the difficulties people with facial palsy have accessing health care for what is a medical condition and not cosmetic.
There are other ways to get involved such as speaking to others about facial palsy to raise awareness or holding a Face UP! Bake Sale.
Find out more about our Face UP! campaign on our website.
To kick off Awareness Week 2020, a group of volunteers have organised an evening of good food and entertainment in Surrey on behalf of Facial Palsy UK. Tickets are £50 each and include a 3-course dinner and a fantastic night of comedy.
Our support helpline will be closed over the Christmas period until 6th January. If you or someone you know develops a facial palsy over the Christmas period please seek urgent medical attention from your local NHS services. Other organisations offering support are:
The Samaritans: dial 116 123 (UK)
Childline: dial 0800 1111 (UK)
We will be in touch early next year with further updates about our activities. Our Annual Report for the year ending 30 June 2019 will also be available by the end of January 2020.
We wish you all a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year. Thank you as always for your support.
