April 18, 2016
The weather might be having other ideas at the moment but here at Facial Palsy UK we are planning for summer! We have two Family Days planned and of course it’s also marathon season. A huge thank you to our Brighton Marathon runners who took part on Sunday. Please read on for further details…
Family days are for children with facial palsy, their siblings and families. An opportunity for the children to make new friends with the aim of reducing isolation and also an opportunity for parents to share experiences.
Sussex Family Day 18 June 2016
Our next southern Family Day is at Terra Amata Farm, Broadford Bridge Road, West Chiltington, West Sussex, RH20 2LF, on Saturday 18 June. We will have the venue to ourselves and the day will run from 11am – 4pm although people will be able to stay later if they wish. Activities may include themed walks, tractor and trailer ride, Pond dipping, Treasure hunt, Natural crafts and arts, sheep shearing demonstration and ball/racket games. We are still working on the final plan for the day.
Derbyshire Family Day 2 July 2016
This family day is situated to appeal to those further north and centrally located. It will be held at Conkers near Ashby-de-la-Zouch on Saturday 2nd July, exact times to be confirmed. We will have our own private room and lots of activities including Bush Craft, bare foot walks, train rides, outdoor play and an indoor discovery centre. As with the Sussex event, we are still working on the final plan for the day.
To register for a place on either of these family days please email email@example.com or telephone 0300 030 9333 and we will send you a form to complete. See below for pictures of previous family days.

Virgin London Marathon
Keep your eyes peeled for people taking part in the London Marathon on Sunday for Facial Palsy UK.
Facial Palsy UK Trustee Alison Sweeting has fought back from cancer to take part in Sunday’s event, her facial palsy a permanent reminder of her journey back to health.
Phil Bluck is running to raise awareness of facial palsy after his girlfriend’s life was turned upside down by Ramsay Hunt syndrome. Please click the link to find out more about why Phil is taking part.
Toby Fisher has a little boy with facial palsy and it’s important to him that Facial Palsy UK continues to support children and adults affected by the condition.
This is the first time we’ve had three runners in the London Marathon. Thank you so much to you all for your support!
Facial Palsy Awareness Week
We are still receiving funds raised from Facial Palsy Awareness Week and are up to £9,000 now. A huge thank you again to everyone who took part whether by raising funds or generally raising awareness. If you missed our newsletter about Facial Palsy Awareness Week, it’s available on our website here.
AGM and Grand Prize Draw
A reminder that our AGM is being held in Peterborough this year at the Great Northern Hotel on 8 October during the day (exact times to be advised shortly). The venue is directly opposite the entrance to the train station and also easily accessible by road as Peterborough is situated on the A1.
We are currently trying to source prizes for our Grand Prize Draw. We have one lovely prize already which is a two night stay in the luxury Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Edinburgh. If you can help with a prize which could be used by anyone in England, Scotland or Wales please get in touch. Sadly lottery licensing laws mean we cannot sell tickets in Northern Ireland. Please also get in touch if you can help sell raffle tickets. Thank you!
Until next time…
It feels like we are really starting to make some headway now with plans. We are delighted that in February we received a £5,000 boost towards our Research Appeal, we are nearly halfway there. We are also waiting to hear about funding for the Children’s Book Appeal. Next week we will be working on our new 3-year Strategy, it’s hard to believe we are now nearly four years old! Thank you as always for your support. If you would like to contact us about anything in this newsletter please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call us on 0300 030 9333. Thank you again, until next time!
